Scenes from Today’s Ivory Crush in Central Park
NEW YORK (August 3, 2017) – The ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø (WCS) released photos and video from today’s ivory crush held in Central Park, where two tons of illegal ivory were destroyed in a rock crusher.  The event was organized by WCS and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYDEC), with support from Tiffany & Co., a longstanding leader in sustainability and a member of the U.S. Wildlife Trafficking Alliance.

Cuomo today commemorated the ceremonial crushing of nearly two tons of confiscated illegal ivory in an event hosted by the State Department of Environmental Conservation, the ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø, and Tiffany and Co. in Central Park. Dozens of international and national conservation organizations joined together to send a strong message to the world that New York State and its partners will work tirelessly to end wildlife crimes that threaten to wipe out African elephants and a host of other species around the globe.

Central Park, New York City, Aug. 3, 2017 – The following statement was released today by the ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø from an event where nearly 2 tons of elephant ivory was about to be crushed here at 10:30am EDT. The ivory has a net worth of $8 million, representing more than 100 elephants. All were seized by law enforcement in the heart of New York City.

Nineteen Critically Endangered Giant Ibis Nests Discovered in Northern Plains of Cambodia
Preah Vihear (August 1,  2017) –The ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø (WCS), working in collaboration with Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment (MoE), announced today that 19 nests of the giant ibis (Thaumatibis gigantea) have been discovered during the current breeding season in the Northern Plains of Cambodia in Preah Vihear Province.
