School of Education Announces the Spring 2019 Speaker Series
The Education Lecture Series, co-sponsored by the School of Education and the Office of the Vice President for Research, will continue into the 2019 spring semester and feature one leading expert in education each month. Lunch will be provided at 11:30 a.m. before each lecture.
First, Anna J. Egalite, Ph.D., will speak on Thursday, January 24, on the fourth floor of DuBourg Hall. Egalite is an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development at North Carolina State University. Her research on racial diversity has been highlighted in numerous outlets including the New York Times. She focuses on the evaluation of education policies and programs intended to close racial and economic achievement gaps. The title of her lecture is "The Benefits of Teacher Diversity: A Summary of the Research to Date."
Tomas Monarrez, Ph.D., will be our second featured speaker on Thursday, February 21, in Tegeler Hall, Carlo Auditorium. Monarrez is a research associate in the Center on Education Data and Policy at the Urban Institute in Washington D.C. His research focuses on education policy topics as they relate to economic and racial inequality.
In March, our speaker in the Education Lecture Series is Cory Koedel, Ph.D. Koedel is an associate professor of Economics and Public Policy at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is published in prestigious journals in the areas of teacher quality and compensation, curriculum evaluation, school choice and the efficacy of higher education institutions. His lecture will be on high school courses access and postsecondary STEM enrollment and attainment. Join us on Thursday, March 7, in Busch Student Center 253 A and B.
The fourth speaker in the series is Margie Vandeven, Ph.D. Vandeven is an alumnus of the School of Education and earned her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from SLU. She is currently Missouri鈥檚 Commissioner of Education and previously worked as a teacher and administrator before she began her work for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Her lecture will be on Thursday, April 11, on the fourth floor of DuBourg Hall.
The final speaker in the series is Liz Stosich, Ed.D. Stosich is an assistant professor in the Education Leadership, Administration, and Policy Division at Fordham University. Stosich鈥檚 recent research has examined how principals lead learning among faculty regarding Common Core and teacher evaluation policy, how administrators' advice networks influence their beliefs about policy, and how state policy leaders frame accountability redesign as it relates to federal education requirements. Her lecture will be on Friday, May 3, in Busch Student Center 254.
