鈥淚t's always fun seeing so many good friends that we haven't seen in a while, particularly because everybody is so spread out,鈥 said alumnus Edlen Wong 鈥07. 鈥淪eeing everyone come back鈥攔eminiscing about the good times, sharing a meal, and reflecting on how people have changed鈥攖hat, I think, is the most valuable thing about a reunion.鈥
The weekend also includes an opportunity to support the Kappa Psi-Gamma Nu Education Foundation Endowed Scholarship, which assists Pacific students who are Gamma Nu brothers.
Established in 2013 to honor the late Larry Carnegie 鈥77, also a Gamma Nu, the scholarship was endowed in 2021 with gifts from dozens of alumni. Their contributions were doubled by Pacific鈥檚 Powell Match, creating a $100,000 endowment to support Gamma Nu brothers in perpetuity.
鈥淭hese donations are a driving force to help the students, who will also be at our reunion,鈥 explained Wong, who is chairman of the Kappa Psi-Gamma Nu Education Foundation.
鈥淭his interaction gives students a great opportunity to meet successful alumni, and we would love that to be impactful for them. We hope our contributions inspire them, after they graduate, to remember the support they received and want to come back and pay it forward to the next generation.鈥
Founded in 1879, Kappa Psi develops leaders who prioritize community service and lifelong professional connections. The Gamma Nu chapter currently boasts more than 1,000 alumni who appreciate its personal and professional impact.
鈥淜appa Psi prepared me quite well for my career,鈥 said Utsav Patel 鈥16, who serves with Wong on the education foundation board and received the inaugural Kappa Psi Scholarship.
鈥淎s a student, holding different positions within the fraternity gave me exposure to leadership, and taught me how to lead a group of very different personalities and mindsets to achieve a common goal,鈥 he said. 鈥淔urther, at every single place I鈥檝e worked, I鈥檝e gotten an interview or made a connection through alumni from our chapter. That鈥檚 made a big difference in allowing me to pursue what I wanted within my career.鈥
Kappa Psi-Gamma Nu is one of 13 professional Greek organizations at Pacific and currently includes approximately 30 student members.
